La Mesa Backpack Project – Martha Guerrero, Coordinator – All volunteers welcome and invited!
1. School supply shopping – Saturday, August 6, 8:00 a.m. –
Weslaco Walmart (the entrance on right
when you face the building, the big entrance near optical);
Martha will give you your shopping orders
2. Filling backpacks with school supplies – Sunday, August 14,
11:10 a.m. in the Fellowship hall
3. Backpack Sunday – Sunday, August 21 – Be in worship and
welcome our brothers and sisters from La
Mesa as we present backpacks to the kids and share in pizza
fellowship with the kids following
worship
PRAYER BEARS are scattered in various pews throughout the
sanctuary. If God places someone on your heart who is going through
a hard time and could use a soft, cute token of encouragement,
please lift their name during the prayer request time and then take
a Prayer Bear home with you to give to them. The bears come equipped
with a tag that lets your friend know they have been prayed for by
this church family.
OUR FOOD PANTRY is running low on supplies. June begins the
season when family food costs increase with children home for meals
during the summer. Please help us restock nutritious non-perishable
foods – either packaged to cook or pop-top for the homeless. Need
ideas? Macaroni and cheese, boxed pasta
meals, canned chili, stew, canned tuna, chicken, ham, canned soups
and vegetables, spam, peanut butter, graham crackers, oatmeal,
cereal, boxed pancake and baking mixes, instant milk…
COMMUNITY INVITATION FROM FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH:
Wednesday evenings this summer from 6:00-7:00 p.m., you are
invited to a discussion group on the life, faith & theology of
Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Based on a new biography of Bonhoeffer by Eric
Metaxas, winner of 2011 Christian Book of the Year.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP:
The Dept. of Pastoral Services at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen is offering a support group for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. Gain coping tools and spiritual support during your journey of grief. Free of charge, open to the public. Call 389-1194. Meetings at Boggus Education Pavilion, Room 1 at Valley Baptist.
